Meet Valencia: The Permaculture Social Worker

Hi, I’m Valencia J. Wilson, LCSW, MSW, MPH, a trauma-informed social worker, therapist, and educator devoted to supporting healing across people, communities, and the environments they inhabit.

My work lives at the intersection of mental health, nature-based learning, and ecological wellness—guided by the belief that healing is not only internal, but relational: connected to land, culture, community, and faith.

My relationship with nature began long before it had a name. As a child, I spent hours outdoors playing until the streetlights came on—feeling most regulated, free, and grounded in the presence of trees, soil, and open space. I didn’t yet understand it as “nervous system regulation,” but I knew I felt like myself outside.

That connection deepened over time, especially during my own healing journey, when I began to rediscover plants, herbs, and food as medicine. What started as personal restoration became a professional calling: to explore how healing expands when we reconnect with the natural world.

Today, through Rooted and Whole Wellness, I integrate trauma-informed therapy, nature-based youth programming, and ecological wellness practices to support individuals and communities in coming back into relationship with themselves, with each other, and with the earth.
